The benefit of doing this step is to save you a lot of time when you are working on a computer.
1) Create a folder on your M drive and call it “Desktop Icons”
2) Locate icons/programs that you use periodically and create shortcuts to them. In many cases all you have to do is to right-click on the icon of a program, file, folder, disk drive, etc and select “Create shortcut”. Either the shortcut will be created in the folder in which you are working or it will place it on the desktop.
3) Drag the new shortcut/icons into the “Desktop Icons” folder.
4) Drag your Desktop Icons folder into your M drive.
When you get to another computer, instead of recreating the desktop icons again, go into your desktop Icon folder and drag/copy them to the new desktop. Many can be dragged and pinned to the task bar at the bottom of the screen.
Recommended icons: MS Word, Your M drive, your M:cs113projects folder, and any other operation you commonly use. Include icons for all your classes.
